Firewatch is a mystery set in the Wyoming wilderness, where your only emotional lifeline is the person on the other end of a handheld radio.

Firewatch is a single-player first-person video game where you, as a man named Henry, explore the Wyoming wilderness after taking a summer job as a fire lookout. What is supposed to be a peaceful respite from your complicated life takes a turn when you start to question some of the things that are happening to you.

Your only human connection is over a handheld radio, which you’ll use to speak with your supervisor Delilah about the things both of you are experiencing.

This whole experience of being alone in a wonderful wilderness makes you as a player feel quite isolated. The landscape is quiet, with just a hint of breeze in the trees and the summer sun baking down on you. It draws you in like nothing else.

Without giving anything away, the story is fantastic. With your only guide being the basic map of your surroundings, you’re encouraged to walk around and find your own way around. Great for gamers who love to chill and leisurely explore well built gaming worlds.

What I shall say about the games story is that it keeps your imagination running wild and your desire to keep going is impossible to ignore. For an indy game from a small studio, it’s a great success.

I would recommend the game to anyone who fancied a good story line, even if it is a little short. Personally I’m hoping for more games from the studio in the same vein as Firewatch.

Go out and buy the game, it’s not expensive and will give you a great sense of adventure!
